Many people look forward to the year’s end as there are multiple festivities during then and also, that’s when they receive their yearly bonus.

On 30 December, employees of a Taiwanese shipping company, Everygreen were probably surprised when they saw the bonus they had received this year.

Last year, some of the Evergreen Marine employees received up to 40 months of bonus but this year, there were some who even received 52 months!

Most of the employees were given a bonus of 10 months to 45 months of wages but those who demonstrated fantastic job performance were given 52 months of bonus.

According to Taipei Times, the shipping company did not comment on questions about the bonuses, rather, they just said: “each employee was compensated based on their performance.”

ET Today also revealed that some employees had received close to 2 million NTD in their bank accounts.

If we calculate it from a grassroots employee’s perspective where they earn 40,000 NTD (RM5,746) per month, getting 45 months of bonus means that they’ll get an additional 1.8 million NTD (RM258,257).

Some also mentioned that they received close to 3 million NTD.

Woman Throwing Cash

Evergreen’s rival company Yang Ming Marine has said that they are planning to reward their employee with up to 13 months of bonus.

Even though the cost of living in Taiwan is quite high, we’re sure everyone is happy when they receive their bonus as the extra cash will definitely help out with their daily life.
