Taking to social media, @My_CrimeWatch shared a video of how this shop owner was caught red-handed keeping subsidised sugar and oil packets for no apparent reason.

Probably keeping it to gain more profit, stocks were found hidden during an inspection by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry at an unnamed location.

In the video, the officers can be seen questioning the workers at the store.

“Why are you keeping your sugar like this? You tell customers that you do not have any stock. What’s this?”

Stating that the kept sugar was meant for restaurants, the officers voiced their anger at the worker’s reply. “You tell customers that only the expensive ones are available. The cheaper ones are out of stock.”

“Just now, when you were asked, you said only the expensive ones are left,” said an officer.

“Now, we found out that the sugar people asked for is in stock. You should sell it to them. You cannot stockpile it with the intention of not selling it.”

The officers summarised that the shop owner may be reserving to their selected customers, and this is definitely a no-go with the officers.
