Without prayers and blessings from parents, we wouldn’t be where we are now, and it’s only natural for us to express love and care towards our old folks who have been loving us unconditionally their entire lives.
In Singapore, three siblings have been helping their parents at a hawker centre and as years passed, they gave up their careers one by one to ease the burden of their parents. It was not the initial decision, but the parents had to seek help from their children after multiple setbacks.
Sin Chew reported that the noodle stall has been set up since 1997, and during the early days of the business, the young children and relatives were brought in to help. Workers were then hired to replace them, but they didn’t stay long, and the parents had to work themselves again, to the point that their health declines.
They did not see other alternatives other than seeking help from their sons and daughter, who already have their respective careers.
The eldest son, who is a former technician was the first to agree to help, and he has been helping at the noodle stall for a decade. The 2nd son joined the “team” 5 years ago and then the daughter got on board about 2 years ago.
The mother, Zhang, said that she is touched and indebted to them for their help.
“I was always busy with the business and somehow neglected them. Seeing them helping me now, I am forever indebted,” Zhang expressed.
Despite giving up their careers, there are no regrets so far, as expressed by the daughter, who used to work in the government sector. Ever since she resigned from the job, she has seen a 70% decrease in her monthly income. However, to see her mother’s burden being eased, that’s all that matters.
“I’ve worked for more than 10 years and I have my savings, so it’s fine, and I want my mother to be happy.”
The decision to give up your career just to help your parents is not something that everyone has the courage to do. We wish nothing but success to the family who has come a long way to maintain their business.
