When you mention Nasi Kandar, most Malaysians will automatically visualise ayam goreng, kuah banjir, fried cabbage or okra, squid, prawn, salted egg and many more, all tucked on a bed of warm, fluffy rice.
But our neighbours across the Causeway has a totally different idea of what Nasi Kandar is which went viral on social media in recent times.
Uploaded in the Facebook Group, Malaysia-Singapore Border Crossers, this ‘Value Nasi Kandar’ dish is part of Ah Miao’s Kitchen’s menu item sold at $2.80.
Looking nothing like Nasi Kandar, you are given two rice options plus anchovies, hard-boiled egg, sambal, curry, pickled veges and a papadom.
This did not go down well with the Malaysians.
Netizens also suggested that the restaurateurs should come up to Malaysia and taste what real Nasi Kandar is like, before making claims as to what they call as ‘value nasi kandar’.
Seriously, anchovies on Nasi Kandar? Just call it Nasi Lemak, ok?
