It’s not every day that you get to win a lottery that’s worth your annual wage, and it’s truly an excitement if luck is on your side.
However, bad luck recently struck a Singaporean woman who won the lottery but may never enjoy her victory. The woman, who has a habit of buying 4D lottery earns SGD 2,000 (approximately RM6,514) monthly, and after asking her friend to buy a 4D ticket on her behalf, she found out that she had won SGD200,000 (approximately RM651,822).
The woman then reached out to her friend who bought the ticket on her behalf, only for her to get ghosted.
Her friend gave her multiple excuses before blocking the woman from her contact. As her friend is now unreachable and her money “disappeared”, she can only cry and ponder on her fate. Her colleagues, however, tried their best to console her and suggested she file a police report, which she did.
But here’s another issue
“It’s your personal deal with her”
The woman had all the evidence needed to produce to the authorities, including the conversation with her friend that clearly shows the details of the lottery. However, the police said it is not their “jurisdiction”.
“We cannot interfere in this matter. It’s your personal deal with your friend,” the policeman clarified.
This prompted the woman to collapse emotionally, and her wish to treat her fellow colleagues to a huge CNY dinner may never come true.
“I’ve never seen that SGD200,000 in my life, let alone winning that amount of money,” the unfortunate woman said.
Her gut-wrenching experience was shared by one of her colleagues in the private Facebook group Jobs in Singapore SG, who wished to spread awareness to others about trusting your friend when it comes to a large sum of money.
“If you need a friend to help you buy a 4D ticket, take into consideration the possibilities that the person may run away with your money. Not everyone can resist the temptation of the money”, she said.
Is money really the root of evil? Seeing your friend running away from you is not easy, and we certainly hope that the woman will find ways to retrieve her money.
