This story proves that you can achieve success no matter where you come from!
24 year-old Azrul Hisyam Samsuri is a Malaysian who is currently studying in the University of Michigan in the United States.
He recently made history by being the first Malaysian to receive the Walter R. and Margaret W. Yates Memorial Scholarship in the past 31 years.
Azrul received a certificate along with a 2,000USD (RM8,657) cash prize!
What makes Azrul’s story even more extraordinary and inspiring, is that he grew up in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, where his father works as a rubber tapper.
Azrul, affectionately known among his family as Achoi, made his father unbelievably proud of his son’s achievement. His father, Samsuri Pileh always knew Azrul would emerge successful in life, since he always showed signs. He said,
“Achoi got 9A+ in his SPM examinations. He has also represented Negeri Sembilan in a national speech competition.”
Azrul is currently working on getting his degree in Chemistry in the University of Michigan.
This is certainly an outstanding achievement and just goes to show that hard work will always get you success. We wish Azrul all the best in his studies!
