A mother in Singapore was sentenced to 14 months in jail for stabbing her 15-year-old daughter with a knife, to which she had pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing harm with a tool that can bring death.
According to Channel News Asia, the incident took place on June 19, 2022, when she was drinking alcohol at home. Her 3 children, a 20-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl and an infant boy, as well as their maid were also at their flat at the time.
Past midnight, the woman entered her youngest daughter’s room as she was getting ready to sleep and started berating her. She then asked her eldest daughter if she should kill her younger sister, and the scared girl refused to answer.
The mother asked again while also grabbing a knife from their kitchen and when she re-entered her youngest daughter’s room, she stabbed the girl in her right thigh. The poor girl also received a cut on her arm from defending herself.
The woman then told the girl to clean up the blood on the floor, but she instead limped to her elder sister’s room to hide. Upon seeing the blood still on the floor, the mother began shouting for the youngest daughter, blaming her for the blood. Both girls then attempted to clean up the blood.
Sadly, the youngest daughter was also then beaten with a ladle while she was cursed at.
Considering the chaos, a neighbour had called the police, but when they arrived, both the mother and the eldest daughter told them that everything was alright while the youngest daughter hid in the bathroom.
The police then left the scene and the mother continued to attack the youngest daughter, by beating her with a small electric fan and wooden sticks.
Soon after, the mother herself had called the police over again, and the poor girl was taken to the hospital.
It was later revealed that the mother had assaulted the girl to prevent her from going out often and allegedly taking part in sexual activities.
The judge took into account the fact that the mother took responsibility for her actions and hopes that the mother will use her time in jail for healing from her addiction to alcohol.
