A resident in a Singapore HDB flat noticed liquid leaking through the ceiling, which caused a stench. She then called his son to check on the leakage, only to discover something sinister.

The liquid was from the decomposing corpses of a man and his daughter inside the unit above.

Both deceased were last seen over a month ago

The gruesome discovery was made on Monday (6 October), when the man was found in the main bedroom, and his daughter was found near the door in the living hall.

The resident below the unit tried to clean the “leakage” with tissue papers and noticed “a really bad smell” from it. He ignored it at first, but noticed something was not right when his mother called again about the same issue.

The police were then alerted, which led to the discovery.

According to the neighbours, both the deceased rarely speak to outsiders, and one of them said the duo was last seen at the end of August. One of the neighbours who stays on the same floor said that their main door is always open during the day, so he could notice every time the pair went out.

“The man looked strong and healthy, but I believed her daughter was suffering from a mental illness. The man would often bring home two packs of rice,” the neighbour claimed.

Another neighbour, Ms He (transliteration), claimed that the man rarely spoke to anyone, and when Ms He said hello to him, the latter ignored her.

She added that there were initially three residents in the unit, which consisted of another elderly woman, but she was not seen after 2017, and Ms He assumed that she may have passed away.

According to the police, the deceased woman was 47 years old.

In another report by Lian He Zao Bao, many neighbours, who were interviewed, believed that the father may have passed away first, and the 47-year-old daughter allegedly starved to death. However, no one could tell why the woman did not seek help from the neighbours after her father’s death.

At the time of writing (9 October), the police in Singapore are trying to locate the daughter’s next-of-kin to assist with the investigation.
