Sometimes, we take for granted how privileged we are to be in positions where we can afford to feed ourselves so we don’t go hungry.
Recently, a Thai Facebook user shared a story of how she treated a modest security guard to a good shabu meal after noticing that he only had enough money to eat an egg for dinner.
“My girlfriend and I were eating Shabu and we noticed a security uncle standing outside. He glanced longingly at our food but when we looked at him he acted like he was thinking about something and walked away.
“After a while, he came back and stood to look at us eat again but walked away once we noticed him again. My girlfriend and I talked and realised that maybe the uncle was hungry and wanted to eat.”
“We tried to look for the uncle and found him sitting outside while eating instant noodles with a miserable egg.”
The netizen then recalls a quick conversation she had with the poor old man.
“Me: What are you doing?
Uncle: Uncle is hungry. So I’m eating instant noodles.
Me: Do you want to eat shabu?
Uncle: What is that?
Me: It’s like sukiyaki.
The security guard uncle never had hotpot in his life so he didn’t even know what it is! T_T
The uncle stood for a moment, as if pondering on the decision but quickly rejected their kind offer. He claimed that he didn’t have the money and would not be able to afford the meal.
But the girl wouldn’t budge. She was adamant that the poor uncle get a good meal.
When he finally caved in, the girl took a photo of the happy old man enjoying the shabu meal.
“We asked, is it delicious? He answered thankfully, delicious!”
While he ate, the girl felt like crying. She wrote,
“He made me think about my grandfather. They look about the same age, but now my grandpa has already passed away.”
At the end of the meal, the uncle asked for the girl’s number because he insisted that he pay the kind girls back for their generous act.
“Uncle will pay you back once my salary is out. Uncle will look for you to pay you back,” he said to her.
The poor uncle is so humble that despite struggling with money, he insisted to pay them back!
Nonetheless, the girls rejected his money despite his multiple pleas and lied that they have won the lottery hence he don’t have to worry about the money.
It’s incredible humbling to see how many of us take granted of the food we get to enjoy, while others can not – they even have to work double shift just to make ends meet!
We hope this girl’s good deed inspires you to be kind to one another today. Spread the love by sharing this article!
