Scary Scenes as Ceiling of PJ Mall Collapses After Heavy Downpour, Injuring 3 People

There was panic at the mall earlier today after the ceiling of Megah Rise Mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor collapsed after a heavy downpour.

Video of the incident has been circulating online, including in this post by Facebook user Fiona Ng.

In the 37-second video, a huge section of the mall’s ceiling on the ground floor can be seen collapsing while security personnel rush patrons out of the building.

The person recording can then be seen running to safety at the mall’s centre court. According to Fiona, the incident happened at around 2.57pm today.

Megah Rise Mall has since released a statement on the incident, saying that the ceiling of the car porch in front of the mall collapsed during strong winds and heavy downpours this afternoon.

The incident caused minor injuries to 3 individuals, though Megah Rise Mall didn’t clarify whether the victims were patrons or staff of the mall.

The mall is currently investigating the cause of the incident and is taking immediate action to manage and address the situation, stressing that the safety and well-being of the community is their main priority.

Megah Rise Mall also announced that a Halloween event slotted to take place tonight has been cancelled following the incident.
