Following its acquisition of MASwings, the state of Sarawak now has its very own airline named AirBorneo.
According to a report by The Borneo Post, Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg, shared that AirBorneo will strike a balance between connectivity, affordable fares and economic benefits.
He explained that AirBorneo will operate as a full-service airline (FSC) to significantly enhance the passenger experience through superior in-flight services.

“This will emphasise the regional prestige of Sarawak as a premium travel destination.”
The airline will focus on rural air services for now
Tan Sri Abang Johari said that AirBorneo will focus on rural air services (RAS) before they expand their operations and destinations, depending on the travel market needs.

“When we named the airline AirBorneo, this means that we also take into consideration our sister state Sabah and we will be extending to Kalimantan as well,”
“Being a full-service carrier, AirBorneo will be engaging in strategic partnership and code-sharing agreements with other international airlines, including with our own Malaysia Airlines, further expanding the network reach and improving global connectivity for Sarawak,” he added.
