Road laws and regulations are set for a very good reason – for our own safety. Though Malaysians are a bit more relaxed with our rules, Singaporeans are very strict with theirs.

One such incident recently took place where a foreigner could not understand why Singaporeans follow their laws so religiously, and ended up showing his ugly racist side.

Uber driver, Glen, told STOMP that he was at 29 West Coast Rise to pick up a Korean passenger at 9,30AM on May 14, 2017.

However, upon arriving at the destination, Glen noticed that there were 5 people who wanted to board his car.

Including Glen, there would be 6 people in total, which was above the legal limit for the amount of people allowed in a 5-seater vehicle.

Of course, the Uber driver had no choice but to reject the passengers. Noticing that they were foreigners, he even tried to explain why he had to reject them. He then went out of the car to smoke a cigarette.

But the passengers were extremely rude when responding to him and didn’t want to alight from the car!

“I tried to explain that it is against the regulations but this rider kept scolding vulgarities. He also did not want to get out off the car so the police were called in.”

These terrible people even went as far as to insult Glen and threw very racist slurs at him.

However, when the authorities arrived at the scene, the horrid man suddenly switched personalities!

“When the police came he became a different person and talked politely. I was there for about 30 minutes because of this entire incident.”

Nath who was a friend of Glen had witnessed the incident and took a short footage of the racist man.

He also told STOMP,

“The guy in the grey T-shirt is the man who brought five of his family members into my friend’s Uber car.”

The police confirmed the incident and explained that the matter was eventually solved peacefully.

It’s quite mind-boggling how people who are in the wrong would raise their voices, and it’s too bad we have a lot of these kind of people around.
