There are many things in life which we are afraid of, such as spiders, heights, the sea, etc. However, nothing would beat the amount of fear running through us when a child gets kidnapped, what more if they are our own children.
As for this mother in Johor, she must have went through the worst day of her life when a robber stole her car with both her children inside!
The 32-year-old woman was sending the two kids to their grandfather’s home before heading to work as a clinic assistant. It was a daily routine for the mother.
The incident took place right in front of her father’s home at Taman Pulai Indah in Johor Bahru at about 7.45am on October 12, 2017, The Star reported.
What happened was, the mother had left the engine running while she went to the boot to grab an umbrella to shelter her little kids into the house as it was raining at that time.
However, as she went to the boot to grab said umbrella, the thief hopped into the driver’s seat and drove away. Both her 3-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son were still in the back seat!
Iskandar Puteri’s OCPD Asst Comm Noor Hashim Mohamad told the press,
“A male suspect suddenly got into the car and drove it away.”
Apparently, the robber didn’t realise at all that he had accidentally kidnapped the two children when he stole the car. The policeman also explained to journalists that the mother’s younger brother witnessed everything.
He was in the house when he saw the robber driving off and he tried to chase after them with his own car, but failed to keep up and lost track of them.
Thankfully, the suspect was kind enough to let the children go. He dropped off the daughter just a few metres away from the crime scene and then the little boy at the entrance of the housing estate.
There were no reports of them being harmed. Phew!
ACP Noor Hashim also said that they found the car about an hour later.
“Police found the car in the Ulu Choh area at about 8.45am and believed it was abandoned by the suspect after it rammed into a lorry.”
Investigations are still ongoing under Sections 395 and 363 of the Penal Code. Authorities also believe that the suspect ran off with the help of an accomplice and are hunting for both persons.
This goes to show that we should always turn off our engine when we get out of our vehicles even if it’s for a short while. We never know when a thief would target our cars due to the ease of stealing a car that’s still running.
Thankfully the children are safe and sound with their family once again.
