The founder of dessert chain Bubblebee and Malaysian comedian, Shuib Sepahtu who was recently slapped with a RM17,500 fine for SOCSO (Social Security Organization) arrears is making headlines again after Malaysian netizens expressed disappointment in his recent onstage joke.

In a viral X post by @twtbiy, Shuib was seen making a joke based on his recent situation by portraying the role of a SOCSO officer.

“I’m from SOCSO. I am going to accompany my friend to pay his summons,” Shuib joked onstage, to which the audience burst out laughing.

The topic of the joke immediately shifted to other unrelated matters but those who are well aware of his SOCSO arrears definitely did not miss the “shade” behind the joke.

Shuib made the joke during the Muzikal Lawak Superstar live show recently where he was invited to perform as a guest star.

Not long after the first fine, Shuib was charged for failing to pay taxes worth RM1.6 million, to which he pleaded NOT guilty.

“Why did the audience laugh? Was he funny?”

Shuib’s joke was met with waves of laughter from the audience but social media users were not amused with the reaction.

Many questioned the comedic elements of Shuib’s joke, and some also pointed out that he was being insensitive about his recent matter.

“I don’t know why people find him funny and laugh at his jokes. This shows they have low IQ levels. Please don’t be entertained by stupid jokes, this is embarrassing. SOCSO is the employee’s welfare, and you made fun of it.”

“That’s his highest level of joke.”

“He knows Malaysians feel sympathy easily, but it’s going to take me longer to have sympathy. For now, I’m disgusted.”

“His jokes are Rempit-level to me. Is that even funny?”

“Don’t blame him. Blame the laughing audiences. Are you that lonely that you’re laughing at stupid jokes like these?”

“I don’t find it funny. Malaysians are so easily amused. This doesn’t look spontaneous.”

“We’re living in a time where committing mistakes and sins are part of the joke.”

“His jokes are Rempit-level. He’s not even funny anymore.”

As a comedian, do you think Shuib can joke about his recent situation?
