In recent years, there has been a surge of animal-themed restaurants and cafes where customers can have their meals while rubbing shoulders with some furry friends.

But, what is most important is that these cafes and restaurants take care of their animals, especially when customers are treating them badly.

Netizen, @__that.artgirl, took to her TikTok account to call out THE RABBIT CAFE in Kuala Lumpur, after spotting children freely terrorising their rabbits while dining at their premises.

She wrote, “The first scene that greets you is all the screaming children running around, chasing after the small, scared rabbits.”

“I witnessed kids dragging them across the floor, bouncing them up on the benches and the tables, forcefully pushing the bunnies into little holes to ‘keep’ them there and even making them dance on tables as though they’re playing with puppets. It was absolutely horrible and NO ONE did anything.”

Apparently, the parents in the premises were sitting on their phones, watching their children treating the bunnies badly and some even helped their kids grab the rabbits so that they can play with them.

“The staff was more obsessed with making sure you don’t change your seats, and ordering food and drinks, than actually caring for the animals,”

“They (the customers and their kids) would just carry the rabbits upside down and scream while fighting over a small, 2-month-old bunny. Screeching and screaming at the bunnies. Completely terrorising the poor things. There was no house rules at all and no one cared,” she said.

She also added that she herself had to step in 3 times to stop other people’s children from mistreating the animals, and when she told the staff about it, they apparently didn’t do anything.

“The parents just pretended I didn’t say anything to their child. It was heartbreaking to watch.”

In another post, she shared that she has made a report to SPCA in regards to this incident and that people have left Google reviews about this but they were taken down.

Following @__that.artgirl’s post, THE RABBIT CAFE took to their Google page to share their new house rules.

They wrote, “Dear all customers, from Monday (October 9, 2023) onwards, we strictly impose the above House Rules and all customers are advised to read and follow these rules when patronising our premises, to have close encounters with the lovely but fragile rabbits,”

“Parents who bring their kids, please help to monitor the children and educate them that rabbits like to be pet on the forehead and back only. No chasing, no grabbing nor catching and lifting the rabbits. Also, no running around but walking slowly to see the rabbits.”

We genuinely hope that the eatery upholds these rules for rabbits are very fragile creatures who deserve to be treated with care and consideration.
