Every educational institution has rules and regulations that their students have to follow to maintain good conduct while on campus.
A student accommodation body for Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) known as INASIS PETRONAS took to its official Instagram page to share certain rules and regulations against public displays of affection (PDA) while on campus.
They wrote, “Any form of public displays of affection is strictly prohibited within UUM grounds. Let’s come together to uphold proper manners and behaviour to ensure a more harmonious campus environment. Remember, public spaces are for everyone. Please respect campus rules.”
“Therefore, INASIS PETRONAS would like to call on everyone to play their part in stopping activities that tarnish our image and decorum as seekers of knowledge.”
They also emphasised that these rules strictly apply to students of all races and religions.
Here are the rules that they have put into motion:
- Do not be intimate and carry out unethical actions
- No holding hands (with partners of a different gender)
- Do not be alone as a couple around the UUM campus
Netizens responded to the posting
Many took to the post to question various aspects of these rules that have been set in place.
Some viewed these rules more seriously.
“So, will this be enforced should a lecturer want to meet with a student, one on one?”
“My religion has never restricted its own worshippers in this sense. So, don’t suddenly place me under such rules. We live here among different religions so please respect each other.”
Meanwhile, others had more humourous takes on it.
“Same gender can hold hands?”
“So, a guy can hold another guy’s hands?”
“So, people can hold hands if they’re the same gender?”
