Being charged for face masks? Especially ones the hospital’s own staff use? That can’t be right!

RM201.60 charged for 3-ply face masks by the hospital

Imagine checking your hospital bills to find that exorbitant fee. Netizen Hilman took it to Facebook to express her sheer shock as a private hospital in KL charged him RM201.60 for 18 face masks used to treat her daughter.

“You charged me RM201.60 for 18 pieces of face mask. Meaning that you charged me RM11.20 per piece? Seriously WTF???!!!! Where is your ethical and professionalism in conducting a medical business?”

FYI, the ceiling price for face masks is RM1.50. So, it’s actually illegal to go above that.

Above it all, Hilman angrily expressed how a face mask is an essential item used in hospitals, and charging the patient masks that their staff used is too unreasonable.

Authorities are now looking into the case

After her post went viral, Hilman also subsequently lodged a report on the high charges.

Officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs are currently investigating the case, in a report by Berita Harian.

The director of enforcement of the ministry said that they will get to the bottom of this as the face masks being charged at RM11.20 a piece is above the ceiling price of RM1.50.

If the hospital is found guilty of this wrong-doing, an individual may face a fine up to RM500,000 or RM1,000,000 as a company.

The director mentioned that this case is being taken seriously to make sure other parties do not raise essential goods such as face masks over the maximum price that was set.
