According to FMT, the price hike is due to increased manufacturing and material costs but luckily, not all the products are affected. It’s not just their bread but some of their spreads as well!

Here are the products that have already experienced a price increase:

  1. Auntie Rosie’s Original Homestyle and Natural Pandan Kaya spread (RM2.85 to RM3)
  2. Delicia Milky Chocolate spread (RM6.70 to RM7.20)
  3. Hazelnut Chocolate spread (RM8.60 to RM9.10)
  4. Delicia Butterscotch, Choco Raisin, Raspberry Milk and Cranberries and Butter Raisin loaves (RM4.35 to RM4.50)
  5. Cream Rolls in vanilla, corn, butterscotch and chocolate (RM0.80 to RM0.85)

Yes, even their popular cream rolls are having a 5 sen price increase! However, the prices of several other items remain the same and among these are its fibre meal bread, European cottage-style bread, Squiggles, Twiggies, Muffin Supremes and others.

Apparently, a Gardenia spokesman told the daily that they have been eyeing the price hike for a while as the costs in taxable supplies have increased over the past few months. These supplies include items such as chocolate, vegetable shortening and packaging manufacturing.

He added, “We are not able to hold (down) the prices of the above products due to the increase in manufacturing, operation, distribution and other costs. As for the rest of our products, we are currently absorbing the costs that have increased and will strive to improve our productivity and efficiency.”

Meanwhile, netizens have been confirming that they were indeed charged more when they went and purchase some of the abovementioned products and were lamenting that it was not so economical anymore.
