If you’re earning over RM10,000, you’re considered M40 but if you make slightly higher than that, say RM11,500, then you’re categorised as T20, according to the Department of Statistics of Malaysia.
Those who make between RM2,560 to RM5,249 are under the B40 category, and it’s hard to believe if a politician says he’s a B40. Just this morning (April 2), PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim voiced out against the politicians who make over RM10,000 a month and yet, label themselves as B40.
“Some of them admitted that they’re B40, when they earn over RM10,000 per month.”
Anwar attended the Ministry of Finance’s monthly assembly this morning to highlight the targeted subsidies and pension schemes, which did not sit well with some members of parliament.
“Which continent are they from? I’m not saying that I am perfect. I am still correcting my past mistakes.”
He said that there are Opposition members who have been questioning the changes in targeted subsidies and the pension system.
“I was told that it was not possible because there are B40 MPs. What is he talking about?”
Some Opposition members pointed out that they have been “downgraded” to B40 because the government has not allocated any financial aid for them.
He added that he has never denied the challenges of surviving with the high cost of living, and assured that the government is still doing its best.
Anwar recently said that he will present a revised targeted subsidy plan to the cabinet sometime this month, and the existing pension scheme will also be reviewed. You can watch PMX’s full speech this morning here.
