The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob gave an assurance that no Movement Control Order (MCO) nationwide will be implemented after this. He explained, as reported by Sinar, that he needed to reiterate this statement due to the people’s concern when MCO might be implemented again, especially during the Aidilfitri celebration this year. He said,

“I have announced once that we will no longer do MCO nationwide, state and district. The economic sector is open as usual, I assure you that we will not close the country again in terms of business, the people can move freely, and we will focus on targeted areas only.”

According to Ismail Sabri, if there is an increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in an area, the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be implemented. He has asked everyone not to believe in any speculation online as the government will make sure a nationwide MCO does not happen again.

The MCO speculation has risen due to the spread of the Omicron variant in the country. However, with the majority of us still practising proper SOPs and having gotten ourselves protected with booster shots, it should be safe to assume that we will not have to go through another nationwide lockdown.
