New Covid-19 clusters are being detected in Malaysia due to family get-togethers, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said in a statement on 28 November that the public should be alert about this after social gatherings that did not follow standard operating procedures (SOP) caused the rising number of cases and clusters.

“This includes big gatherings involving family members, celebrations and religious ceremonies. People with symptoms were also at these gatherings,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham referred to the Enggor Cluster in Perak and the Indah Mas Cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor that started from a family gathering, which later caused infections within the community. He added that the Inai Cluster and Jambul Cluster in Sabah also originated from celebration events.

Additionally, the Mentari cluster affecting Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur resulted from a religious ceremony involving family members and acquaintances who attended a funeral in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

“It is indeed hard to practice physical distancing in crowded and confined areas, however, taking note from these clusters, the public should adhere to ministry advice,” he said.

“It is important for us to always be cautious and strive to protect ourselves, our family and the people around us from Covid-19.”

KKM urges everyone to follow the SOPs closely. “Get used to the correct ways, and correct the usual ways.”
