The environment a student has to study in can sometimes determine how effectively they absorb lessons and information.
In a comfortable environment, students tend to be able to focus better and participate actively.
Recently, former Machang Bubuk ADUN, Lee Khai Loon, took to his Facebook page to share how a group of students in Penang were being forced to have their lessons in a hot container as their classrooms were too full packed. Thankfully, he found a way to help them.
He wrote, “For months, they were forced to study in a dark and hot metal container. Yesterday, the Penang State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) was officially dissolved to make way for the Penang State Elections. Before I closed the office, there was a school principal, Miss Pathma, who came to the office.”
“She told me that the number of students in her school have exceeded the maximum capacity since the beginning of the year. She really needs help because a number of students had to be moved and placed in a hot, metal container.”
He immediately decided to visit the school and what he saw made his heart drop.
“The metal container is not conductive to learning. It’s really dark and dim inside, it’s hot, needless to say, it’s like I can’t breathe. There is a student named Teeba, her face looked gloomy, maybe lethargic and tired. She told me that the classroom was too hot and very uncomfortable for them to study.”
“Imagine, there are 10 to 15 students in that metal container, and they have to study in that kind of condition almost every day since the school opened. It’s so saddening to see,” he explained.
Upon noticing that there were locked halls that were not being utilised, he decided do up one of the halls for the students to use as their classroom.
“Instead of wasting and being idle, I decided to use a hall to be utilised as a classroom for these students. We repainted, put on some beautiful make up and even installed an air conditioner to keep it cool. Only then will it be comfortable for them to study.”
“My heart was touched when I saw the smiles on the faces of Teeba and her friends. I hope that my help will in some way boost their enthusiasm to continue studying hard until they reach the ivory tower,” Lee added.
It’s so great to see how these young students now have a comfortable place to study, especially considering the fact that the heat is insane!
