A video of a group of students destroying school property had gone viral on several social media platforms.

Many netizens were angered by how the students were ripping off whiteboard covers, throwing chairs, kicking the doors of bathroom stalls and even tearing down ceiling fans on their last day of the 2022 school year.

In a statement by the Penang Education Department (JPN), the department says that they are looking into this matter as it involves vandalism.

They also mentioned that the school had called upon the students pictured in the video and their parents to go to the school on 18 February to discuss the issue.

The students involved in this act of vandalism will be undergoing community service as a “character and manners intervention” to make sure that they do not repeat the act again.

The value of the property that was destroyed is still under assessment.

JPN also said that they are always committed to making sure that the well-being of teachers and students is looked after.

So, a campaign to stop vandalism along with a comprehensive action plan will be put into place following the Education Ministry’s core values.
