When we go out drinking, we’re encouraged not to drive as it endangers other road users for us to drive under the influence of alcohol. Hence is why we rely on e-hailing platforms for a ride home.
So, perhaps don’t drunkenly assault these e-hailing drivers who are only there to help us get home safely?
An e-hailing driver, Wooi Xiang, took to the grab&Mycar 司机乘客中文交流区 Facebook page to share how a drunk passenger had assaulted him in Penang, after he tried to get the passenger to stop talking with his friend so that they can leave.
He wrote, “Be careful of this person. I arrived at the pick up point and waited. When he arrived, he opened the car door and kept talking to his friend for a long time. I asked him if he wanted to get in. If he didn’t want to get in, I can cancel (the ride). After hearing this, he came over to my side and beat me up.”
“If there’s money to earn, who wouldn’t want. But just because you have money to spend, it doesn’t make you God.”
According to his police report, the incident took place at 6:20am at Penang Times Square where he picked up 3 passengers, 2 women and the perpetrator. They allegedly strongly smelled of alcohol.
“I smelled a strong stench of alcohol.”
After the 2 women had gotten into the car, the perpetrator stood with the car door open and was talking to his friend for a long time.
After waiting for quite a while, Wooi Xiang decided to tell the perpetrator that if he does not want to get into the car then Wooi Xiang can cancel the ride.
This caused the perpetrator to beat Wooi Xiang up, leaving him with minor injuries to the face, chest, neck and shoulder, and the perpetrator also tore his shirt.
We genuinely hope that the authorities take action against the man for his unruly behaviour.
