A recent story has touched many after a Malaysian shared a heartwarming experience with a staff member at Penang International Airport who went above and beyond to help her and her younger sibling.

Taking to Threads, Esther (@esther_rachel.sj) recalled the moment she and her younger brother received the devastating news that their older brother had been involved in a serious accident.

Malaysian siblings accidentally book the wrong flight date

With no time to waste, Esther and her sibling booked an emergency flight from Penang to Sarawak just five hours before departure.

However, upon arriving at the airport, they realised they had accidentally booked their flight for 31 July instead of 24 July.

“Because we were panicking and only booked the flight about five hours before departure, we accidentally selected 31 July instead of 24 July. We only realised the mistake at around 1.50pm after a police officer pointed it out during the ID check. Our boarding time was supposed to be 2.15pm,” the post read.

Panicked, the siblings rushed to the airline counter hoping there was still a way to make it home. That was when they met the airport staff member, Ms Suzana Joyce A/P Richard Nelson.

Airport staff steps in to help siblings get home during emergency

Upon learning about their family emergency, Suzana stepped in and managed to change their existing tickets to the same day’s flight, with the siblings only needing to pay the fare difference.

“Despite the long queue and the very limited time, she immediately checked for available seats. Buying new tickets would have cost us more than RM1,000 each, but she went the extra mile and helped change our existing tickets to the same day instead,” Esther wrote.

Reflecting on the experience, Esther expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Suzana’s compassion and quick thinking, which allowed her and her brother to make it home in time.

“Thanks to Ms Suzana’s kindness, compassion and quick action, we managed to board the flight and return home to be with our brother. Ms Suzana, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Suzana

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Esther said she hopes more people will hear Suzana’s story and be reminded that there are still many kind-hearted individuals willing to help others.

“I genuinely hope this story reaches more people because the world needs more people like Suzana. Too often, we only see and hear about negative experiences online, while acts of kindness go unnoticed. I think it’s time we also celebrate the good and give credit where it’s due,” she said.
