The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has clarified that a video currently going viral online, which showcases Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) students assaulting a fellow student, actually took place mid-last year.

According to a report by Kosmo, the Seberang Perai Selatan Deputy Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd. Norazmi Abd. Ghapar, shared that initial investigations found 7 students involved in the incident, including a 15-year-old victim.

He added that no police reports were made about this, but his party will still conduct an investigation into this matter, following the video going viral.

“All of those involved have been identified, and the cause of the incident was that they were joking and making a mockery of each other. However, further investigations will continue, including recording statements from all individuals involved in accordance with Section 323 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Should the school do anything?

Based on a report by Berita Harian, the Chairman of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, revealed that the perpetrators involved, including the students who were abetting the act, will be terminated from their studies.

He added that the decision was based on the recommendation made by the MRSM Disciplinary Committee.

Prior to this, a video had gone viral online, showcasing multiple students physically and sexually assaulting another student who was face down on a bed, while watching, laughing and cheering each other on.
