This Hari Raya season, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be using drones to ensure that housing areas comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Aidilfitri celebrations while the Movement Control Order (MCO) is in effect.

According to BERNAMA, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department’s ‘SAC Operations’ Senior Asst Comm M.V Sri Kumar said that the use of the drones is to detect SOP violations.

“As you know, police patrols will be carried out in every available housing area, so the police are also using the approach operated by the PDRM air control unit,”

“However, its use is subject to the request of each district police chief in the respective states as to whether the application of drone use is needed to monitor the required residential areas,” he said.

Though, for apartments and such buildings, police will be checking the visitor booklets available at the location.

“PDRM will act in this way so that no one is found violating the SOPs to visit a house as directed by the government. It is one of the pieces of evidence that can be used to indicate any form of public presence in such premises,”

“For that purpose, the public is also advised to report any violations of the SOPs during Aidilfitri celebrations in their neighbourhood to the police,” he added.

Even though it is the festive season, we should all practice self-discipline and adhere to the SOPs so that we can be rid of the Covid-19 virus.
