A petrol station in Johor had to temporarily shut down after a car with a Singaporean plate drove off with the fuel nozzle still attached, ripping the entire pump from its base.

As previously reported, the incident happened along Jalan Skudai last Friday (17 October), and videos of the mishap quickly went viral after being captured by a bystander.

The driver could face a fine of RM300

Johor Bahru North District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said police received a report about the incident around 12:19 AM

He said the accident involved a Lexus RX driven by a 36-year-old man who forgot to remove the fuel nozzle after refueling.

“Investigations found that the incident happened around 10:18 PM and has since gone viral on social media. The driver forgot to detach the fuel nozzle before driving off, dragging the pump and causing damage,” he was quoted of saying by Sinar Harian.

Balveer said the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to control a vehicle while driving, which led to the accident. The offense carries a compound fine of RM300.

He also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Zulhisyam Aziz, at 019-7432966 to help with the investigation.
