PDRM on The Hunt for Viral Toyota Harrier Driver Who Escaped Police Patrol Vehicle’s Pursuit in Penang

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is currently on the hunt for the driver of a black Toyota Harrier seen in a viral video driving dangerously on a road intersection in Bukit Tambun, Penang, while fleeing from a PDRM Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) that was hot on its pursuit.

Dashcam footage of the incident has been circulating on social media, including in this viral Facebook post by Penang Kini with over 177,000 views as of the time of writing.

In the 18-second video, the Toyota Harrier can be seen speeding through the narrow gap between vehicles on the two-lane road before dangerously merging onto the traffic of the connecting road.

A few seconds later, a PDRM MPV can be seen chasing the SUV before the video abruptly ends.

PDRM is currently on the hunt for the suspect

In a statement, Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou revealed that the incident took place at the Jalan Paboi-Bukit Tambun intersection on Thursday (20 June) at around 11.15am.

He added that his side has received a police report on the incident and that investigations are still ongoing under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their public functions and Section 279 of the Penal Code for rash driving on a public way.

Jay January Siowou stressed that the Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Headquarters (IPD) is actively tracing the suspect.


The Seberang Perai Selatan District Police Chief thus urged witnesses or those who have information about the case to channel their information directly to the Investigating Officer, Inspector Tuan Noremifarahana binti Tuan Roslan at 019-8442162.
