The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has strongly condemned the actions of the individual responsible for uploading an image that insulted the Sultan of Selangor on 2 May.
In a statement, which was also shared by the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, MAIS chairman Senator Dato’ Setia Haji Salehuddin bin Saidin said the image was uploaded on Facebook via the account “Lucas Liam”, and noted that similar content had previously been linked to another account, “Huayan The Pure Learning Centre”.

The council also condemned the act of editing and spreading offensive and humiliating images of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
“The post clearly shows a lack of respect for His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor as the Head of the Islamic religion in the state, by linking the Head of Islam with objects and visuals that are clearly prohibited from the perspective of Islamic law (Shariah).
“In addition, the shared visuals go beyond social norms and values, touch on religious sensitivities, and have the potential to cause division among Malaysia’s multi-racial community,” the statement read.
They also stressed that any form of insult against His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor and the royal institution should not be taken lightly.
Man believed to be linked to the Facebook account has been arrested
Following the incident, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested a local man in his 30s in Bukit Mertajam on 3 May to assist with the investigation.
In a statement, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bukit Aman, Datuk M Kumar said the arrest was made with close cooperation from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which helped identify the individual believed to be linked to the account under investigation.
“The raid team also seized two Samsung mobile phones along with SIM cards believed to have been used to upload the post.
“So far, 12 police reports have been lodged nationwide on the same issue. A remand application against the suspect will be made today (4 May ),” the statement read.

- Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948
- Section 504 of the Penal Code
- Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998
PDRM stressed that any misuse of social media involving 3R sensitivities (race, religion, and royalty) can disrupt community harmony and the country’s well-being.
