Recently, a group of Malaysians had gone viral for setting up stoves and casually cooking noodles at a crowded petrol station near Genting Highlands. Based on the video shared to Twitter by @localrkyt, the group seemed to occupy a majority of the space at the petrol station by parking their cars there to gather and cook.
Following this, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) announced that they are investigating this matter and are on the hunt for the group after receiving complaints from the general public about the incident.
The Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd, Shairan Huzani (more popularly known as Pak Cik Shell), has since taken to his Instagram page to share why cooking noodles using a stove at a petrol station is dangerous, even if it is nowhere near the petrol pumps.
He wrote, “There are some who have said, ‘it’s far from the pumps so it’s okay‘. No! Because petrol vapor can flow as far as 10 meters from the source such as the pump, the oil drain and the vent pipe. Stay safe everyone.”
Basically, as long as you’re still within the petrol station grounds, you’re surrounded by petrol fumes that can be dangerous!
In his video, Pak Cik Shell also shared a snippet of the group cooking their noodles at the petrol station and showcased roughly how far 10 meters is from a petrol pump. Now, this is the kind of content social media needs!
