Earlier today, Malaysians all over the country were shocked by news of a mother in Pahang who had murdered her own son last night (17th June).

However, the story took a more disturbing turn after it was discovered that the 31-year-old woman had no memory of what had happened. According to the New Straits Times, the child’s father, 41-year-old Muhammad Rizal Jusoh, was horrified to find that his wife had killed their 2-year-old son, Muhammad Nur Rashdan, yesterday.

Muhammad Rizal recounted the traumatic incident, telling the daily,

“I was watching the World Cup football match on television while Nur Rashdan was sleeping near me. Minutes later, my wife came to the living room and informed that she wanted to take Nur Rashdan into the room to sleep.”

“Suddenly, I heard my son crying in a very weak voice. I rushed to the bedroom and was shocked to see my wife holding a knife near my son’s throat. I pushed her away and rushed my son to Jengka Hospital.”

Sadly, Nur Rashdan did not make it and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He continued,

“After the incident, she asked me who killed Nur Rashdan. She did not know what she was doing and I am unsure what led her to commit such a brutal act.”

Rizal said he did not expect his wife to do such a thing, as she was always protective and loving towards their three children. However, he shared that she was experiencing depression since May, and he thought she was being disturbed by evil spirits, leading him to bring her for Islamic healing.

The 31-year-old mother is suspected to be mentally unsound and believed to have hallucinated during the horrific incident. She has since been arrested.

Let’s hope the authorities deal with this case fairly and with the utmost sensitivity. Our deepest condolences also go out to Nur Rashdan’s family and hope they find the strength to deal with this tragic loss.
