When you think of haunted hotels and inns in Malaysia, the first place you would probably think of is Amber Court at Genting Highlands.
But is it really haunted? The building management committee sure as hell knows it’s not.
Taking to a press conference shared by Oriental Daily, the committee is denouncing claims and videos posted by YouTubers portraying the building as haunted. They even shared how some content creators fake the crying sounds heard and used actors as ghosts in their videos.
They have since also threatened to take legal action against these content creators for driving business away from the complex, causing the property value of the building to drop and causing financial losses.
Additionally, they revealed that YouTubers and content creators who enter the building to film tend to treat the premises like they own it, breaking into private units while the complex is under renovation.
“We warn anyone who tries to continue to slander and damage the apartment. In addition to calling the police, the owners have also initiated legal proceedings against all those who try to damage the reputation and image of the apartment, including internet celebrities, YouTubers, Feng Shui masters, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and others, to take legal action and seek justice,” shared chairman Datuk Seri KK Chai.
He went on to share that they will soon begin rebranding the building.
“Besides repairing and repainting the exterior, we will also repair or replace various infrastructure to breathe new life into the apartment. With the support of the apartment owners, the management has upgraded the apartment’s security system, added CCTVs, increased the number of security guards and embarked on major renovations and refurbishments to bring the apartment back to life with a new look.”
“We also held the General Meeting of Owners last Saturday, which saw the approval of most of the owners to apply to the relevant authorities to change the name of the building to get rid of the notoriety of the ghostly apartment that has been vandalised and slandered,” he added.
While we understand that it’s fun to create ghostly content, but it really shouldn’t be done if it hurts the livelihoods of others.
