As food business operators, handling massive orders can be overwhelming but the sales that we can gain from it are truly rewarding. However, canceled massive orders can definitely be nerve-wracking, considering the amount of time and ingredients that have been wasted to prepare the orders.

Instead of crying over spilled milk, a hawker in Singapore recently decided to do something good with his canceled orders. To avoid food wastage, the hawker decided to give away the 45 bowls of noodles which the buyer canceled last minute. The public was invited to eat FOR FREE.

The hawker and his team spent almost an hour preparing the orders, and despite the costs that remained unpaid, at least the food are not wasted and the hawker fed 45 empty tummies!

According to Oriental Daily, the stall is frequently visited by the people nearby, and the canceled order consisted of rice noodles, meatball noodles, and Laksa. It was definitely a free mini buffet of noodles for the lucky visitors on that day.

The hawker, who wished to remain anonymous said that he was constantly rushed to prepare the order. When the delivery rider picked up the food, it did not take him long to return to the stall after the order was canceled when he was on the way to deliver them.

Manpower vs the workload

The hawker admitted that on that day, there were only two people manning the stall, and some soups and noodles have to be packed separately.

But that’s not all.

“Aside from this large order, we also had to deal with dine-in customers, and it definitely took a lot of time for us to prepare.”

The incident reminded the hawker about another similar situation where he had to prepare a whopping 60 bowls of noodles, and it took them about 2 hours to complete the order. Despite the time taken, the customers had no complaints.

He posted about the canceled orders on his Facebook account and invited people over for the noodle feasts, which were on the house. The cleaner of the place also had the luxury of enjoying the free meal.

It was definitely a bummer to have the order canceled and lose some income, but it was truly kind and generous of the hawker to give away the orders.
