Despite the relaxation of SOPs, nightclubs and pubs are still not allowed to operate as these places restrict the practice of physical distancing. Nevertheless, there are still some stubborn establishment owners who are operating secretly hence why PDRM has to conduct raids from time to time.

In his press conference today, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said that on 1 January 2021, arrests in nightclubs and pubs reached up to 623 arrests!

Local authorities have been instructed to take stricter actions against pubs and nightclubs which continue to operate despite restrictions. The Defence Minister added that more action could be taken against these premise owners including revoking their licenses or even blacklisting them.

The housing and local government ministry has written to state governments, informing them of the ministry’s instructions to local authorities.
