Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has been making headlines after a video of him reprimanding a journalist for asking a question went viral.

In the clip, he can be heard snapping at the reporter, saying, “Which media are you from? I’ll call your Chief Editor,” a remark that has since sparked widespread criticism.

The reporter asked him why the project’s theme was in English

According to Utusan Malaysia, the incident took place during the launch of the ‘I Lite U’ city lighting project in Kuala Lumpur, when a reporter asked why the project’s theme was in English instead of the national language.

Kor Ming then responded to the reporter’s question, explaining:

“This is Visit Malaysia Year 2026. We need to learn to step out of our comfort zone. Our target is tourists from all over the world. If we cannot master English, we must at least ensure that every tourist who comes here feels the spirit of unity for this country. Of course, we respect the national language. So, I hope you don’t make this into an issue.”

The viral video has since sparked backlash, with many sharing their opinions, including celebrity preacher Firdaus Wong, who said he dislikes Nga for his attitude and behaviour.

In a Facebook post, Firdaus wrote,

“Nga Kor Ming threatened to call a journalist’s editor? If you can’t handle being questioned or don’t like it, then don’t hold press conferences and don’t be a politician! Simple as that. He’s one of the politicians I dislike because of his attitude. He was also among the first cabinet ministers to ‘back up’ Tiong King Sing.”

“What a ridiculous minister!”

Firdaus, however, wasn’t the only one to speak up about the issue. UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh also took to Facebook, calling Nga “a ridiculous minister.”

“The same person who used to slam the government over media freedom when he was in the opposition, now that he’s a minister, he gets upset over a reporter’s question and even threatens to take action against the journalist,” he wrote.
