JPJ announced that starting 10 October 2024, logins to the MyJPJ app will now require users to have a MyDigital ID.

MyDigital ID is a digital form of identification used to authenticate users for online transactions. It aims to protect Malaysians from online fraud and identity theft and make it more convenient for them to verify their identity.

In case you’re wondering, yes, it is safe to register, and also fast and secure for online transactions.

It may sound like a lot of work but it requires a 1-time registration only for future conveniences. Plus, it’s free!

There are 2 ways to register for a MyDigital ID

1. Via the app

If you plan to register through the app, make sure to download the app from the iOS store or Google Play. Once downloaded, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open the app and key in your e-mail on the homepage.
  2. You should receive a one-time-PIN (OTP) via e-mail, key in the OTP into the app.
  3. Key in your name and IC number (you will be prompted to take photos of your IC as well as a selfie for verification purposes)
  4. Once that’s done, create your password and you’re good to go!

You can watch the tutorial video here.

2. Via a kiosk

If you prefer registering at a kiosk, here’s how you do it (remember to have your IC with you):

  1. At the kiosk, insert your IC and place your thumb on the scanner until scanning is complete.
  2. Make sure all the information displayed is correct before verifying them and pulling out your IC.
  3. Open the MyDigital ID app and scan the QR code displayed on the kiosk.
  4. Create a password and click on “Yes” to store your ID.

And you’re done with the registration at the kiosk! You can click on this link to locate the nearest kiosks to you.

According to the information on the official website, no users are allowed to have more than 1 ID.

While it is not compulsory to register, the government highly encourages Malaysians to register for MyDigitalID to protect themselves from cyber threats.
