From durian hotpots to orang asli land being destroyed to meet the durian demands; the King of fruit has always been a topic of conversation. Durian is on the news again, but this time, it is about a delicacy created by combining with another Malaysian favourite — cendol!

Cendol durian is nothing new, but when you have to pay RM114 for three bowls, it will definitely raise a few eyebrows. This amount was seen in a viral photo of a receipt recently.

Although the original poster is seen recommending the treats even with the hefty tag, other’s don’t seem to be happy as Malay Mail reports.

Even though the shop has gotten criticism already, the owner is thankful that his shop, Raja Cendol Taming Sari, has indirectly gotten some promotion.

As reported by Malay Mail, Muhammad Ariff Qayyum Mohd Zambri stated that the amount is actually reasonable as his shop sells typically sells durian cendol for RM17 to RM38 per bowl. He elaborated,

“Our regular customers who know durian prices will not dispute our charges because they understand. Our cendol prices are based on the type of durians provided: Musang King, Udang Merah, D24 and D101.”

He continued that in each serving, the durian weighs around 120g to 150g to ensure the customer each customer is satisfied. He also mentions that the prices are listed in his stall clearly.

Upon further inspection, the owner was also found to follow the regulations set by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs of Melaka.

The director of the ministry, Jaiya Abu told Sinar Harian:

“To me, there is no issue here. The owner has clearly stated the price for each cendol in the menu. At the end of the day, it is up to the customers to pick whichever they can afford.”

Our advice is that whenever you want to eat durian cendol or just about anything for that matter, check the prices first. You don’t want to be taken by surprise by the charges at the end of your feast which might ruin your dining experience.
