M’sians Prefer Thailand to Langkawi for Vacation & 1 of the Reasons is… CHEAP Street Food!

With the transition into endemicity, most of us have started or at least planned for the long overdue vacations. Just recently, it was reported that most Malaysians opt for Thailand as their preferred destination, instead of domestic travel.

Facebook page Himpunan Cerita Lawak shared an image of Thai street food yesterday (September 19) as a response to one of the reasons why many Malaysians tend to visit Thailand for vacation.

“Cheap street food. One of the reasons why we prefer Thailand to Langkawi,” the caption said.

Those who have visited different parts of Thailand will agree that this shopping heaven is filled with tasty and cheap street food almost everywhere. It didn’t take long for fellow Malaysians, especially those who have stepped foot in Thailand to express why they think travelling to Thailand is a far better idea than travelling within the country.

“The vacation costs in Thailand are far cheaper than in Malaysia, not to mention the folks in Thailand are nice.”

A user expressed her intention to visit Sabah/Sarawak but changed her mind when the flight ticket was over her budget. 

“RM4,000 – RM5,000 for 6 people, excluding the accommodation. And they tend to increase the price during school holidays. How do we travel within Malaysia?”

Another user shared the meal he had in Thailand with his family which cost him around 2300 Baht (approximately) RM283.

“In Langkawi, this meal would’ve cost you the price of a motorcycle.”

In the meantime, a netizen sarcastically told others that visiting Thailand is wiser, without (verbally) telling others that visiting Thailand is wiser.

“Please, you can have these in Cyberjaya. But once you have the octopus, you’ll have to fast for a week in the office and skip lunch.”

“With RM2,000, you return home empty-handed from Langkawi. With the same amount of money, you return home from Krabi with souvenirs for your family and relatives. The choice is in your hand.”

Another user also supported the idea of going to Thailand for vacation with the famous slogan “Shopping heaven”, and said that the people in the neighbouring country are friendly.

Another Malaysian who frequented Thailand also praised the country for always displaying the price which eases the transactions.

“Here in Malaysia, they’ll tell you the price in a different dialect, and the cost is always cut-throat.”

It’s understandable why most Malaysians seem to opt for Thailand when it comes to vacation. Of course, if given the option, we would always want to spend as less as possible. Fellow Malaysians who have visited Thailand like it’s your second home, do you agree that the country is one of the ideal places for your time off?
