#KitaJagaKita in action
In the past few days, KL has seen its fair amount of floods as sudden heavy rainfall threatened to submerge the city. Fortunately, just as we experienced in the major flash floods back in December 2021, members of the rakyat have stepped in to do their parts and help those in need.
Recently, a tweet by a local business owner went viral after she had offered those were who stuck at their offices due to the KL flash floods a place to wait out the rain and get free coffee!
Shamin Shaimah who is the founder of The Milkfish Lady, a fishing shop and fishing tour operator took to Twitter to offer help to those in need.
Hi everyone, are you stuck in KL City because of the floods? We’re keeping our office open, feel free to drop by Wisma Central, Unit 3.30 for a hot cup of coffee… free! Keep warm with us and let’s wait it out together. ❤️

Her tweet on Monday (7 March) reads, “Hi everyone, are you stuck in KL City because of the floods? We’re keeping our office open, feel free to drop by Wisma Central, Unit 3.30 for a hot cup of coffee… free!”
“Keep warm with us and let’s wait it out together.”
In a subsequent tweet later that night, she wrote, “thanks for coming by to have coffee with us! We have just closed the office to head home. Please stay safe and you can come by tomorrow for more free coffee, rain or shine.”
Inspiration behind the act
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Shamin said that although they are not a café, they do offer free coffee for anyone and everyone that drops by normally.
“So it is natural for us to just extend it to those who were like us, stuck and could not head home that day.”
She added that the store normally closes at 5:30pm daily. However, on Monday, they closed up at 9pm after roughly 30 people had accepted her offer to wait out the heavy rain at their office.
“We were just moved to support those around us. We have free coffee all the time for anyone that needs it and will remain open for those stuck,” she added.
The #KitaJagaKita spirit
Shamin’s tweet has amassed over 7,443 likes and 6,464 shares. Plenty of users praised her efforts in helping to lend a hand to those who have been impacted by the floods.
“It’s always rakyat jaga rakyat,” commented one user.
“Again, only #KitaJagaKita,” commented another user.
Kudos to Shamin and The Milkfish Lady for stepping up to show some compassion and lend a hand to those who were affected by the flash floods.
