This is certainly an outrageous thing to happen! The police are meant to uphold the law yet it seems that news of rogue policemen are getting more common these days.
Based on a recent report by Sinchew, five policemen were recently arrested on Tuesday, December 12 for robbing a goldsmith on Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur. The five police officers had apparently gone to the shop for an operation last week at around 10pm on December 9.
However, they did not leave immediately after the operation but continued staying there and proceeded to rob the goldsmith of RM35,000 in cash before leaving. The shop owner reported the incident to the police station and after investigations, they arrested one of the prime suspects, a 51-year-old inspector at his home in Taman Desa Baiduri.
The rogue police inspector admitted that he had indeed committed the crime when he was there with four other police officers aged between 28 and 34 years old. He said that he had tried to bribe the other four with RM700 each but they allegedly refused to accept the money.
After interrogation, Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Shaharudin Abdullah has confirmed that all five of them have been released on bail and a report has been handed over to the Attorney General Chambers on Friday, December 15. The case will be investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
This case drew much attention from Malaysians, who voiced out their concerns and outrage about the behaviour of these rogue policemen, with many asking why they were released. They condemned the policemen and said that there was no excuse for their behaviour.
Here’s what some of them said:
Hopefully PDRM can weed out these bad apples who are tarnishing their name and reinforce the rakyat’s trust in them!
