Resorts World Genting recently held the Genting Theme Parks Celebration 2023 (GTP Celebration 2023) at the Genting International Convention Centre (GICC) on 24 October, a night celebrating its team members.
However, the event has since gone viral, particularly its costume competition, largely thanks to the competition’s winner who beat other contestants thanks to her epic cosplay of Bao Zou Po, or the Landlady from Stephen Chow’s classic movie Kung Fu Hustle.
Videos of the costume competition have gone viral, shared by the winner herself, TikTok user @karine.ventsin.
Sharing to her TikTok account, the video of her walking on stage as Bao Zou Po has garnered over 1.5 million views and more than 109,000 likes.
Meanwhile, another TikTok post she shared, which is of the full-length video of the top 10 best costumes from the GTP Celebration 2023 has been viewed more than 3.5 million times and garnered over 203,000 likes.
In both videos, @karine.ventsin can be seen portraying Bao Zou Po to perfection, not just in terms of costume, but also in her mannerisms which were indistinguishable from the Kung Fu Hustle character.
These include taking off one slipper and holding it in one hand as if threatening others with it and performing the “lion’s roar” move by dramatically taking a super deep breath, just like in the movie.
In a separate video, she also shared her cosplay being announced as the winner of the video, to loud cheers from the crowd.

In the comments, many Malaysians were awed by the woman’s portrayal of Bao Zou Po and can’t get enough of her antics as the character.
One commenter noted how others cosplayed as anime characters from popular series such as Naruto, One Piece or Dragon Ball, but @karine.ventsin stood out with her out-of-left-filed character choice.
Meanwhile, another commenter said that her cosplay is simple but perfect, a sentiment shared by another commenter who said that while her costume was relatively low-cost, her confidence in portraying Bao Zou Po was astronomical!
