Hong Kong veteran actor and comedian, Stephen Chow gained international fame as early as the 80s, and after Kung Fu Hustle and CJ7 which received major positive feedback, Stephen stopped appearing on the big screen.
He may have stopped acting (at the time being) but he is actively directing films. With his years of experience both in front and behind the camera, it’s likely that many young talents have thought of reaching out to him for a piece of advice or 2. Recently, local YouTuber, Dissy commented on his post and sought advice for filmmaking as they are venturing into the industry this year.
“We’re making a movie this year. What will you advice us?”
Let’s just say, Stephen’s response was blunt and straightforward.
“Try to make a movie without vulgarity. See if you can do that.”
If you’re a keen follower of Dissy’s content on YouTube, their touches of humor are often accompanied by vulgarities and obscene language.
Judging from Stephen’s reply, does this imply that he has been watching Dissy’s videos? The HK comedian did not comment further about whether he has been catching up with Dissy’s content.
Dissy, on the other hand, took the screenshot of Stephen’s reply and shared it on their Instagram page, where they asked the fans if their movie, which will be produced sometime this year should come with vulgarities.
In the meantime, the matter is also reported by Sin Chew Daily, and in another IG story today (April 14), Dissy thanked the publication for “reminding” Malaysians that they are making a movie this year.
We’re always excited to see what the local talents have up their sleeves, and another local movie production shows that the youth or the filmmakers are more enthusiastic than ever. However, as Malaysian audience, are you okay with vulgarities in a movie?
Will the film censorship board be occupied with censoring obscene words during the editing process?
