We’ve always heard of stories about people being sexually harassed on public transportation and I’m sure we have all imagined what we would do if that happens to us. But sometimes, it’s not as easy as that and when you’re in that situation, you wouldn’t know how to react.

This woman, Hanan (@hananfaizure on Twitter) shared how she managed to save another woman in the LRT who was being sexually harassed by a man on 24th December.

In a series of tweets, she recounts the incident. The thread has since gotten 18+k retweets and likes.

She starts off by saying that she managed to save a girl from sexual harassment in the train. She then explained that she didn’t manage to take a picture of the perpetrator but she was very sure of what the man did to the poor girl.

She said that when she first witnessed it, she didn’t know what to do as she only read about situations like that on Twitter but had never experienced herself before. However, she came to her senses and pinched the girl’s back to show her a note which said:

“Hi, I want to help you. Let’s get off this train and we’ll take another one.”

They then went down on the Chan Sow Lin station and the man followed them. He did not tail them but went to change to the Ampang Heights Line. When they got down, the girl broke down and cried. Hanan then held the crying girl who explained that she thought it was a backpack that was hitting her behind when in fact, it was the man’s genitals.

Hanan ends the thread by asking women who take public transport to be more careful and aware of their surroundings. If you feel like something isn’t right, then you should always check. She also urges other commuters to always stand up and help the victim when they see something like that happening.

That is certainly a very brave thing to do! Kudos to you Hanan! We are grateful for what you did, and we hope that this story will give awareness to the people!
