While there’re many available properties for rent in Selangor and KL, it can still be a struggle to find the perfect one that meets all our needs.
One of the biggest factors that influence tenants without cars is how near the rental unit is to a train or bus station. This is because non-car drivers basically walk or take public transportation EVERYWHERE. Unless they splurge on Grab!
“10 minutes walk from LRT/MRT”
As a result, many property listings make sure to include the walking time needed to get from their rental unit to the nearest bus or train station. The catch is, the actual walk usually takes longer than estimated and there is no designated walkway for pedestrians!
This is shown by @anaszack9 on TikTok when he uploaded a video showing the route he takes to get to MRT Surian from his condominium.
“The purpose of this video is to show how ‘great’ our pedestrian walk is. This path is used daily by commuters to and from the mentioned locations,” Anas wrote in his video.
The dangers of the route
As he walked along the route, you can see that some parts of it are not too bad, as there’re sidewalks. But in other parts, the route is challenging because there are no clear, designated path for pedestrians to walk on.
First, there was a slippery slope without lights or railings, followed by a walk next to a busy main road, then a narrow sidewalk and finally a junction without pedestrian crossing.
It is only the last 500m to 1km of the route that you can see a sidewalk that looked like it was specially MADE for walking.
Netizens can relate
In the comments, netizens say that they can relate to Anas’ struggles.
“The real problem is…the weather?! I’ll be sweating like I just did a 20km marathon before I even reach the office,” said one netizen.
Another netizen agreed with Anas that the issue is not how long they need to walk, but the safety of the walkway.
“Then, they’ll put a high rental price because it’s near public transport.”
