Remember how slow the internet connectivity was back in our uni days where loading journals seemed like they were taking forever? More like 5-ever!
Well, that will soon be a thing of the past because over 150 institutions nationwide can now enjoy high-speed internet of up to 100Gbps!
Das right guys, under the newly-rebranded Malaysian Research & Education Network (MYREN-X) project, institutions such as universities, colleges, hospitals and government agencies that have subscribed to MYREN-X can enjoy a dedicated high-speed network, according to The Star.
Here’s the list of universities involved.

- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)
- Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)
- Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)
- Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)
- Islamic International University Malaysia (IIUM)
- Universiti Teknikal Melaka Malaysia (UTeM)
- Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM)
- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT)
- Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK)

Besides universities, 31 polytechnics, 85 college communities, 5 hospitals and 6 government agencies have also subscribed to this project.
With such high-speed connectivity, scientists and researchers will be able to carry out high-impact projects at their respective institutions. Plus, it can also boost the collaboration between local and foreign scientists.
“With MYREN-X, we hope to further boost capacity to 3,200Gbps, which will really improve big-data processing and high-performance computing,” our Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak said.
“In medical research of cancer, it is required to have high-performance computing system that can process up to 26 billion character codes per second, with the aim of reducing the fatality rate among patients,” he added.
