It’s not easy being an underdog but when you get a chance to prove yourself, you make sure to never miss the opportunity. When everyone doubts you, the only thing left to do is to prove the haters and doubters wrong. And that’s exactly what S.Kisona did with her effort at the 2019 SEA Games by snagging the gold medal after an amazing comeback.

Even after losing the first set (22-20), she didn’t give up and persevered and won the second set (21-14) and ended the game with a miraculous win (21-13). The 21-year-old, who was world No.104, defied expectations when she made her way into finals after defeating World No.22 Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand.

As the cherry on top, her victory also marked the first time Malaysia has won back-to-back women single’s gold at the regional SEA Games, where the last time this happened was when Slyvia Ng bagged three straight titles from 1973 to 1977. That’s over 40 years!

“I want to thank the management and coaches for placing their trust in me to play in the singles.”

Her determination and will was what got her the victory and she deserves every bit of it! We would like to wish her the heartiest congratulations and here’s to making us even prouder in the future!
