As inflation hits, many families have been struggling to make ends meet. While some live from paycheck to paycheck, others are struggling to put food on the table. That being said, some Malaysians would have to make do with what they have.
Just recently, a Malaysian man has shared his story on how tough life was for him and his family back then. In his Twitter post he said,
“When I was still in school our family was very poor. During fasting month, we could only afford rice mixed with some salt and a little bit of soy sauce.”
He expressed that it was a rough time for his family, but they were still happy regardless of the circumstances they were in.
“My mother was a single parent, and she was working as a cleaner. Whenever I think about her working so hard to support us, it makes me tear up”, he added.
He then ended the post by saying that he’s thankful for the hard work his mom had to put in to raise them.
“Thank God that things are better for us and we’re able to take care of her in return. We all have a job and 2 of my siblings still live with her”, he added.
Following his post, many netizens also shared what they had to eat in order to survive the month.
A netizen shared that she had no choice but to go into the woods to find some vegetables as they didn’t even have rice. She managed to find some tapioca for lunch.
“We steamed the tapioca and shared it with 5 people, so we only got a little but we’re happy.”
“I had rice with oil and rice with leftover oil used to fry salted fish.”
“When I was young, the eggs we got from our chicken would be sold to buy rice. We would either go to the farm and just pick whatever vegetable we have or eat it with salted oil.”
“I’m a single parent and my job is commission based. There was a particular month where I really didn’t have enough money for pampers and milk. So, I decided to only buy diapers and my child would have to drink boiled water. Thank God everything is good now and we can eat whatever we want. God’s grace really comes in different manners.”
This is a gentle reminder to always be grateful for what you have and never take anything for granted. Have you ever been in his situation? Let us know in the comments below!
