A loving and supportive family environment is important for a child’s mental health as they grow up. On the other hand, a negative atmosphere at home can lead to challenges like trauma, which we all know isn’t easy to overcome.
In a recent confession posted by @meingl, an anonymous man shared a heartbreaking experience of growing up in a broken family, detailing the emotional struggles and challenges he faced throughout his childhood.
His dad quit his job 20 years ago
The anonymous man (let’s call him Wan) shared that his parents are nearly 60 years old, but his mom has been the sole breadwinner ever since his dad quit his job when Wan was just 3 years old.
He expressed his sadness over seeing his mom still working hard at her age just to make ends meet and ensure their family’s survival.
“My dad has never given my mom any financial support since his bank account is always at zero. Imagine, for 20 years, my mom has had to raise and support all 5 children by herself.”
“My dad has never expressed gratitude for my mom.”
Wan continued to describe his dad as hot-headed, often verbally abusing his mom and failing to appreciate all she does for the family.
“I would get upset with my dad because I understood what my mom was going through, so naturally, I stood up for her. She has to work tirelessly and still manage all the household chores.”
Wan explained that he’s studying far away, while his siblings have families and homes of their own, leaving him concerned about his mom’s well-being when she’s home alone with his dad.
She doesn’t want her children to grow up without a father
Wan also revealed that not only is his dad verbally abusive, but he also controls all the money that Wan’s mom earns.
“Whenever my mom wants to buy something for herself, my dad gets upset and tells her she can’t, thinking it’s a waste of money. Despite working tirelessly from 7am to 7pm, she’s unable to use her hard-earned money. A wife’s money is her right.”
He continued to share how he often finds himself crying every night when he thinks about his mom, feeling sorry for what she has to endure.
“My mom is a good person. When my dad quit his job, many people advised her to divorce him because he couldn’t provide for her anymore. But she refused because she didn’t want her kids to grow up without a father.”
A mother’s sacrifice and love are simply indescribable. One can only hope that someday Wan’s dad will have a change of heart.
