Arguments are par for the course when it comes to relationships, but we’re pretty sure not all of them end up with someone lighting themselves on fire! As crazy as it sounds, that’s exactly what happened to a man from Sitiawan, Perak.

New Straits Times reported that a 21-year-old man had purposely burnt himself, following a heated argument with his girlfriend. The incident took place at a car park adjacent to his home in Kampung Bintang, Sitiawan, and he was rushed to the hospital not long after.

However, by the time he was warded, he had already suffered 90% burns to his body. He is now in critical condition, and receiving treatment at the Seri Manjung Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Footage of the horrific incident is now going viral on social media, as there were recordings taken from the CCTV that the neighbourhood was equipped with. You can view it here.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Hanif Othman said that the police had received an emergency call on Monday night (March 18), at 7.40pm. To further the investigation, they will be analysing CCTV footage as well as calling witnesses in for questioning.

The case is now being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide.

Well, that was intense to say the least. We hope the families of those involved will have the strength to get through this tough time in their lives, and that the victim will be able to pull through. Remember ladies and gents, there’s always a peaceful way to resolve a dispute, and causing bodily injury to yourself will only ever do more harm than good!

[Update: It is with great sadness that we report that the burn victim has died from his injuries. The Star reports that police received the news from Seri Manjung Hospital on March 20, 6:20pm. We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.]
